Sugar-Free Applesauce



It requires no rocket science or you don’t have to be an experienced cook or baker to prepare your own applesauce. All you need is apples and water, that’s it! I never add sugar to my homemade applesauce, but for those who like sweet, of course it’s always an option to add it anyway.

If you’re wondering what to do with the applesauce. Well its so good, you can just have it the way it is and use it as a side dish or dessert, but did you know that applesauce is a great ingredient to be used in all kinds of baked goodies? You can use it for instance as a substitute for sugar or even fat in a lot of recipes, which provides a great taste and texture. The only thing you have to do therefor is make it dryer by draining the applesauce overnight in a cheesecloth or at least a very delicate cloth (don’t throw away the juice, this can be used in all sorts of other recipes or just mix it in a smoothie for instance).

Usually I always prepare a small batch of applesauce to use it immediately or I put it in the freezer for later use. Always useful!


Recipe Sugar-Free Applesauce

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Yield: 300 grams

Recipe Sugar-Free Applesauce


  • 2 kg sweet apples
  • 200 ml water


  1. Peel the apples , remove the cores and cut into pieces.
  2. Put the apple pieces in a pan and add 200 ml of water.
  3. Bring to a boil and simmer on low heat for 1 hour cook until a sauce.
  4. Stir frequently.


NOTE!! For a dryer version, drain the applesauce overnight in a cheesecloth or at least a very delicate cloth.
